Grade 10 History of Ukraine Atlas: 1914–1945

The years 1914–1945 are among the hardest and most important in the Grade 10 programme: two world wars, the gaining and loss of statehood, a totalitarian regime and genocide. It is almost impossible to grasp without a map — borders and front lines changed too fast. The Grade 10 History of Ukraine atlas shows these changes clearly and works together with outline maps for practical assignments.

What the atlas shows: contents by section

The maps match the programme's topics.

  • Revision. Introduction: the Ukrainian lands within the Russian and Austro-Hungarian empires, the settlement of Ukrainians in the early 20th century.
  • Ukraine during World War I: the geopolitical plans of the sides, the fighting of 1914–1917, Ukrainians in the armies of the warring states, the Ukrainian Sich Riflemen.
  • The Ukrainian Revolution and the rise of the UNR: the collapse of the Russian Empire, the first Russo-Ukrainian war.
  • The struggle for independence: the territories of the UNR, the Ukrainian State, the ZUNR.
  • Ukraine within the USSR: the famine of 1921–1923, industrialisation, the Holodomor of 1932–1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people, changes in the administrative division.
  • The western Ukrainian lands between the wars: within Poland, Romania and Czechoslovakia; the UNR government in exile.
  • Ukraine during World War II: the Soviet occupation of Galicia, Volhynia and Bukovyna; the German occupation; the Act of the Proclamation of the Ukrainian State; the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA); the fighting of 1942–1944 and the expulsion of the occupiers.

Atlas and outline maps: how to use them

The rule is simple: the atlas shows, and the student fills in the outline map. With the atlas the student reads where the front lines or famine regions were; on the outline map the same objects are marked by hand — and that is what makes the material stick. Grade 10 outline maps go together with the atlas — separately or as a single set.

Who it is for

  • Grade 10 students — for History of Ukraine lessons and preparation for tests and the NMT.
  • Teachers — a map base for the 1914–1945 topics, aligned with the curriculum.
  • Parents — to help with practical work at home, without hunting for maps online.
